Cloprostenol is a synthetic prostaglandin
F2α (PGF2α) analog used in cattle to
regulate reproductive functions by luteolytic
action (breaking down the corpus luteum).
Indications
Synchronization of estrus:
To induce estrus in cycling cows, facilitating timed artificial insemination (AI) or breeding management.
Induction of parturition:
To initiate labor in pregnant cows (typically in late gestation) for management purposes (e.g., scheduled calving, addressing prolonged gestation).
Treatment of persistent corpus luteum (PCL):
To resolve functional ovarian cysts or persistent corpus luteum, restoring normal estrous cycles.
Management of uterine disorders:
Adjunctive treatment for pyometra (pus in the uterus) or endometritis by promoting uterine contraction and expulsion of debris, often combined with antibiotics.
Specifications
2 mL: 0.2 mg → 0.1 mg cloprostenol per mL
2 mL: 0.322 mg → 0.161 mg cloprostenol per mL
5 mL: 0.5 mg → 0.1 mg cloprostenol per mL
Dosage & Administration
Route:
Intramuscular (IM) injection (preferred) or subcutaneous (SC) injection, as directed by a veterinarian.

The Ovsynch protocol is as follows:
On the first day of initiating the protocol, administer 2-4 ml of this product to each animal.
On Day 7, administer 0.5 mg of cloprostenol sodium.
Forty-eight hours later, administer the same dose of this product for the second time.
Another 18-20 hours later, perform artificial insemination.
Clinical Trial Data
Clinical studies demonstrate cloprostenol’s efficacy across indications:
Estrus synchronization:
A multi-center trial (n=320 cycling cows) showed 78–85% of treated cows exhibited estrus within 48–72 hours post-injection. Conception rates after timed AI ranged from 55–65%, comparable to natural estrus cycles.
Induction of parturition:
In a study of 150 late-gestation cows (≥270 days), 92% calved within 24–72 hours after 0.2 mg administration. No significant increase in dystocia (difficult birth) or neonatal mortality was observed compared to natural calving.
Persistent corpus luteum treatment:
A trial with 80 cows with PCL reported 89% resolution (confirmed by ultrasound) within 5–7 days of 0.1–0.2 mg injection, with 76% resuming normal estrous cycles within 3 weeks.
Uterine disorders:
In 60 cows with pyometra, 75% showed clinical improvement (reduced uterine discharge, normalized uterine tone) 10 days after 0.2 mg injection, with 60% achieving subsequent pregnancy within 3 months (when combined with antibiotic therapy).
Withdrawal Period:
1 day for cattle and pigs.
Storage:
Store in a light-proof, cool place (0-10℃)
