Basic Product Information

Buserelin: 10ml:40μg; 20ml:80μg

Key Advantage:

The 4 μg/mL concentration enables precise, low-volume dosing, ideal for consistent delivery of therapeutic GnRH levels without excessive injection volume.

Indications

Buserelin injection (4 μg/mL) is primarily used for reproductive management in cows, leveraging its ability to modulate LH/FSH release. Key indications include:

Estrus Synchronization (for Timed Artificial Insemination)

Integral to synchronized breeding protocols (e.g., Ovsynch, Cosynch) in cycling or anestrous cows. It initiates follicular wave development and coordinates ovulation timing, ensuring cows are fertile for timed AI (eliminating the need for estrus detection).

Induction of Ovulation

Triggers ovulation in cows with mature ovarian follicles (e.g., cows showing estrus but with delayed ovulation, or cows in assisted reproductive technologies like embryo transfer).

Treatment of Follicular Cysts

Resolves functional follicular cysts (fluid-filled ovarian structures >25 mm) that cause anestrus or irregular cycles. Buserelin stimulates LH release, which induces luteinization of cystic follicles, restoring normal ovarian function.

Enhancement of Post-Calving Cyclicity

Accelerates return to cyclicity in post-partum cows with delayed anestrus (common in high-producing dairy cows). It jumpstarts follicular development, reducing the interval between calving and first AI.

Dosage & Administration

Route of Administration

Intramuscular (IM) injection (preferred):

Ensures rapid absorption and peak LH release within 30–60 minutes, critical for ovulation timing.

Subcutaneous (SC) injection (alternative):

Permitted for cows with sensitive muscle tissue; absorption is slightly slower

IndicationTarget Buserelin Dose (per cow)Injection Volume (4 μg/mL)Timing & Key Notes
Estrus Synchronization (Ovsynch Protocol)20–30 μg5–7.5 mLAdminister on Day 0 of Ovsynch; follow with prostaglandin (Day 7) and a second buserelin dose (Day 9); timed AI occurs 16–20 hours after the second dose.
Induction of Ovulation20 μg5 mLAdminister when a mature follicle (>18 mm) is detected via ultrasound; ovulation occurs within 24–36 hours.
Treatment of Follicular Cysts20–30 μg5–7.5 mLAdminister once; recheck ovarian status via ultrasound after 10–14 days; repeat dose if cysts persist.
Post-Calving Cyclicity Enhancement20 μg5 mLAdminister 14–21 days post-calving; supports follicular wave initiation.

Clinical Trial Data

Efficacy of the 4 μg/mL buserelin injection has been validated in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with dairy and beef cows, focusing on synchronization success and fertility outcomes:

Trial 1:

Ovsynch Protocol Synchronization (n=240 Lactating Dairy Cows)

Study Design: Cows were assigned to two groups:

Treatment group: 5 mL (20 μg) buserelin (Day 0) → prostaglandin (Day 7) → 5 mL (20 μg) buserelin (Day 9) → timed AI (Day 10).

Control group: Natural estrus detection + AI.

Key Results:

Synchronization rate: 92% of treated cows were eligible for timed AI (vs. 68% of control cows that showed detectable estrus).

Conception rate: 58% in the treatment group vs. 56% in the control group (no significant difference, confirming synchronization does not reduce fertility).

Trial 2: Follicular Cyst Treatment (n=70 Anestrous Cows)

Study Design: Cows with ultrasound-confirmed follicular cysts received 5–7.5 mL (20–30 μg) buserelin (IM) or no treatment.

Key Results:

Cyst resolution: 87% of treated cows had cyst luteinization within 14 days (vs. 12% of control cows).

Cycle recovery: 79% of treated cows resumed normal estrous cycles within 3 weeks (vs. 15% of control cows).

Trial 3: Ovulation Induction (n=100 Beef Cows)

Study Design: Cows with mature follicles (>18 mm) received 5 mL (20 μg) buserelin (IM) or a placebo.

Key Results:

Ovulation rate: 94% of treated cows ovulated within 24–36 hours (vs. 38% of placebo cows).

Pregnancy rate: 67% of treated cows conceived after AI (vs. 41% of placebo cows).

Storage: Store at 2°C – 8°C (35.6°F – 46.4°F) (refrigerated, not frozen).

Package: 10ml/bottle; 20ml/bottle
