Toltrazuril Oral Solution

Ingredient: Toltrazuril 2.5%

Mechanism of Action:

Inhibits the mitochondrial respiratory chain of Eimeria parasites, disrupting energy production and killing all intracellular stages (schizonts, gametocytes, and oocysts). Unlike some coccidiostats that only target specific stages, toltrazuril stops parasite replication entirely, reducing oocyst shedding and preventing disease spread.

Key Target Parasites: Species-specific Eimeria strains that infect:

Poultry: Eimeria tenella, E. necatrix, E. acervulina, E. maxima (common in broilers, layers, and turkeys).

Livestock: Eimeria bovis, E. zuernii (cattle); E. debliecki, E. suis (swine); E. arloingi, E. ninakohlyakimovae (goats/sheep).

Pharmacokinetic Advantage: Well-absorbed after oral administration, distributed to intestinal tissues (the primary site of Eimeria infection), and has a long half-life—allowing for single or short-duration treatment regimens.

Indications

Toltrazuril 2.5% Oral Solution is indicated for prevention and treatment of clinical coccidiosis in poultry (broilers, layers, turkeys) and livestock (cattle, swine, goats, sheep). It is particularly valuable for addressing acute coccidiosis outbreaks and reducing subclinical infections (which impair growth and feed efficiency).

Treatment of clinical coccidiosis:

Addresses acute infections characterized by bloody diarrhea, reduced feed intake, weight loss, and high mortality (caused by Eimeria spp.).

Prevention of coccidiosis:

Administered during high-risk periods (e.g., 14–21 days of age, when chicks are most susceptible) to suppress parasite replication and avoid disease outbreaks.

Reduction of subclinical coccidiosis:

Improves feed conversion rate (FCR) and average daily gain (ADG) by eliminating subclinical parasite burdens that reduce nutrient absorption.

Treatment of coccidiosis:

Caused by Eimeria bovis and E. zuernii, which cause diarrhea (often with mucus/blood), dehydration, and poor growth in calves.

Prevention:

Administered to calves at weaning or when moved to high-risk environments (e.g., crowded pens, contaminated pastures) to prevent infection.
