Mechanism of action

Anticoccidial Mechanism:

Hainanmycin, a carboxylic acid ionophore antibiotic, kills coccidia by disrupting the osmotic balance of K⁺ and Na⁺ ions within the parasite’s cells. This triggers excessive cation influx, followed by compensatory water entry that causes cellular swelling. The coccidial cells exhaust their energy reserves attempting to expel the surplus ions, ultimately leading to cell death through energy depletion and osmotic lysis.

Modulation and Growth Promotion:

Hainanmycin optimizes rumen microflora by selectively inhibiting Gram-positive bacteria (producers of acetic, lactic, and formic acids) while sparing Gram-negative bacteria (producers of succinic and propionic acids).

This shift:

 Suppresses proteolytic bacteria, reducing ruminal protein degradation Increases total ruminal protein availability Enhances net energy utilization and nitrogen efficiency Improves overall feed conversion efficiency Concurrently, it promotes nutrient absorption through intestinal wall thinning in ruminants and stimulates pituitary hormone secretion to accelerate growth.
